Award-winning journalist and author, Tash Reddy releases her latest book this week. The beautiful mother-of-two has been making waves since she first appeared in the media landscape more than two decades ago. She first became popular as a producer for a morning breakfast show in Durban and soon after that stint became a journalist at Independent Newspapers. Tash was given the freedom to explore her writing passion at this mainstream newspaper organization and this is where the foundation for her books first began.

Tash embodies resilient passion

Presently, she is celebrating the release of another book, titled: “Ashes of Her Empire” which has been described by reviewers as “captivating”. Tash, a La Lucia resident situated in the north suburbs of Durban, told Newsie that she was still riding a wave of happiness after her 11-year-old daughter released her first book titled: Lily’s Light last month, April 2025.

Tash discusses her book

Ashes of Her Empire is a poignant memoir documenting Tash and her family’s challenging journey through the personal turmoil of her marital separation three years ago. The book details the impact the ending of the relationship had on her children. With profound honesty, Tash delves into the depths of her experiences, offering a beacon of hope and healing for other women navigating similar struggles.

According to Tash Reddy

Tash became a household name while hosting the morning drive show alongside Damon Beard on East Coast Radio some years ago. She then continued to win hearts by writing profound stories of interest at Independent Newspapers in Greyville, Durban, for a South African audience. Throughout her career, the ambitious Tash has been honoured with various accolades including the Phenomenal Woman Award from the Nelson Mandela Foundation, an induction into the Assupol’s Museum of Heroes as an SA Heroine 2021, a designation as a Global Ambassador of Peace by the Institute of Peace and Development as well as an appointment as a South African Ambassador for the ‘My Body Is My Body Programme’.

Additionally, Tash was nominated as a Global Ambassador for the Commonwealth Entrepreneur Club. She has also served as the South African Delegate for the Innocence Project, and held representative roles at the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), Amnesty International and Global Goodwill Ambassadors. She admitted she has not stopped studying since finishing high school and has numerous educational and professional qualifications to her name.

Ashes of Her Empire

Ashes of Her Empire depicts the gripping tale of Vivienne, a formidable woman devastated by the betrayal of the man she loved and the friend she trusted. “Vivienne is a powerful woman who is left destroyed by her beloved husband having an affair with her best friend. Betrayed, ruined, and stripped of all she had, a brave Vivienne claws her way back from the ashes to reclaim her power to emerge as a symbol of unwavering female strength,” explained Tash. Recalling her own heart-wrenching experience of her husband leaving their children, Daniel and Ysabella behind three years ago, Tash expressed that it was incredibly challenging but that she remained resilient.

“My children and I were thrust into a storm we never saw coming after being abandoned without warning. “We were thrown into turmoil with no explanation, financial support, or any means of contact. This unforeseen betrayal nearly shattered us, but we endured,” she said calmly. The painful circumstances her children faced following her former partner’s abandonment was exacerbated by his sudden request for a paternity test. “It confirmed what we already knew as it was proven that he was the father,” said a mindful Tash.

Picking up the pieces

Tash said she survived her ordeal thanks to her close-knit family. Although it was “incredibly challenging” she remained courageous like the heroine in her story, Vivienne. “The book is an echo of my own journey of pain, of reclamation and of turning wounds into weapons and heartbreak into healing. She is who I was, and who I dared to become,” smiled Tash. Vivienne, the protagonist of the narrative, mirrors Tash’s personal evolution. “This path is marked by adversity, empowerment and transformation of trials into strengths, and sorrow into solace. She personifies my past self and the aspirational individual I strive to embody,” she mused.

Life after the confusion

In true heroine style, Tash says she emerged triumphant after overcoming the significant challenges in her life and she is now engaged to an “amazing man”. She is in a fulfilling relationship with this “exceptional gentleman”, and describes her fiancé as her best friend. Ashes of Her Empire and Lilly’s Light are available for purchase online.
